The Turtles only became ninjas because the last thing they touched before their mutagen bath was Hamato Yoshi. This could have very easily not been the case.
why would the turtles be touching giant cockroach people... that has nothing to do with what they ended up as. were the turtles touching teenage ninjas while covered in ooze? i think not
they were touching hamato yoshi, who WAS a ninja. their age has nothing to do with it. hamato yoshi had last touched a rat, so he became Splinter. if they were touching giant cockroach people, they would've become giant turtleroaches. or cockurtles.
